Illustrations

Jess’s style is the marriage of realistic painting and the experiment of shapes and forms of illustration. This style has grown by working into illustrations with shades/ highlights and bringing it to life with layers of different textures giving it a 3-dimensional feel. In contrast to her more expressive free flowing work that involves minimal layers washed ink and line work.

‘I’ve always loved painting in a hyper-realist way but illustrating opens that creative part a bit more for me. When I re-illustrated ‘The Very Long String’ book, I was working on a few paintings at the same time and so it just kind of came together, let’s call it a creative accident! I’m obsessed with what space on a page can offer, empty backgrounds, playing around with sizes and distances. You don’t need much to tell a good story.’
